I wrote in one of my past posts that I would talk about the health issues I have been dealing with over the past year, so here goes;
For quite some time I have been feeling unwell. I was suffering from bad nausea and sickness, light headedness, cramps and abdominal pains and because I am not a big fan of seeing doctors, I came up with excuse after excuse to avoid going. But it all finally came to ahead in June 2014. Whilst out at Alton Towers with my parents, brother and Son I found myself spending quite some time in their onsite medical centre. They advised I visit my GP so with a little prompt and support from Mark, the following day I was booked in to see my doctor. It was from that day on that I became aware that I was going to be poked, prodded, sent for numerous tests and become a regular at my doctors surgery.
My illness was showing no signs of letting up despite the numerous tests and different medication. Finally my GP could see that I had had enough and decided to send me for an ultrasound to try and get to the bottom of the problem. I went to the hospital on September 19th 2014 for the scan and was in there for what seemed like forever. About a week after the scan, my doctors surgery called me to ask me to pop in so my doctor could talk to me about the results of the scan. On entering the doctors room,I could see from his face that they had discovered something. At this point my mind went into overdrive, but I stayed calm as he continued to explain that they had discovered abnormalities on my liver and found gallstones. He said that he wold refer me to see a specialist at the hospital to discuss further action. Most likely this action would result in an operation to remove the gallbladder. My specialist appointment seemed to take forever, but eventually on the 3rd December I went to speak to the consultant at St. James hospital. This was to confirm what the scan had shown and what he would be doing. He confirmed that he would be operating to remove my gallbladder. I asked him about the abnormalities on my liver and he told me that I had cyst like growths that had formed but they were benign and he wasn't concerned at the moment about these and that he would leave them be.
Following my meeting with the consultant , I waited for yet another appointment through the post. This was my pre-op assessment appointment. I went for this appointment on the 19/12/14. For this I had to go to the LGI as they couldn't fit me in at St James. I was again poked, prodded etc as they made sure that I was fit for surgery. I was put at ease by a lovely nurse named Maria as she explained about what would happen prior to and after the surgery. I was cleared as fit for surgery so all I had to do was wait for my surgery date to arrive and then it would be all systems go.
Im not a fan of hospitals either so the waiting game was tough.
Christmas came and then passed without any news of a surgery date. By the end of January 2015, I was fed up of waiting for news so I called the hospital. They told me that I was on the waiting list and it could take up to 18 weeks. I felt so frustrated that I had to continue waiting until mid April and meanwhile still suffer being ill most days. A few weeks passed and I received a phone call from a lady named Becky who went on to tell me that she was from the Spire hospital in Roundhay, and that my consultant had put me on his list there and they had a slot on Thursday 12th March 2015 for my operation. I couldn't believe it - the operation was definitely happening.
So preparations were underway again to get me ready for surgery. Last week on Tuesday 3rd March, I went up to the Spire for tests to ensure I am ready for surgery. And here we are, the week of my op is finally here. My head is all over the place and my nerves are increasing but Im sure that all will go to plan and the operation will go well and my recovery will be a quick and easy one, I am grateful for the support network that I have. I will of course keep you updated on my recovery etc.
